2019 Yeringberg, Marsanne/Roussanne, Yarra Valley

The Pury family grew up right next to this 19th century winery (out-of-operation) in the Coldstream area of the Yarra Valley.  Production had ceased since 1921 due to the lack of interest in table wines. From the 1960’s a new movement of producers such as Yeringberg, Yarra Yering and Mount Mary would change the Yarra Valley wine scene forever. Sandra de Pury, daughter of Guill and Katherine, after studying and travelling is today making the wines at the estate, bringing a world of knowledge to the winery.

Why do we like it?

Marsanne and Roussanne are two typical grapes from the Rhône Valley in France. These grapes produce wines that are full bodied, with moderate acidity, and aromas of baked apple, melon, and a touch of honey. Traditionally they have a creamy mouth feel from malolactic but also a fine viscous texture from its natural characteristics. Roussanne is usually added to Marsanne to bring freshness to the wines. Because of the rich mouth feel of these wines, and a very nicely balanced structure, we suggest serving the wine at about12 to 14 degrees. This Yeringberg is ready to drink, but you can forget about it as well for other 5 years
