2019 Domaine Chapel Chiroubles

David Chapel is the son of Alain Chapel, of the finest French chef's who ever lived. After his father passed away in 1990, David found his way working in vineyards owned by some of his father's friends. One of those vignerons was Marcel Lapierre, a great mentor to many and one of the greatest producers of Beaujolais. That's where David met his future wife Michele Smith, a wine director of a 3 Michelin starred restaurant in New York. After spending a few years in the US, they decided to come back to the region and establish Domaine Chapel in 2015. They own only 4 hectares of vineyards, the quality is very high and everything is in the detail.  The wines are aged in foudres for about 9 months and bottles without fining and filtration.

Why do we like it?

The 2019 vintage was a great vintage in the region. Combined with a great producer such as Domaine Chapel and you obtain a magnificent bottle of wine! Mind you, we are not talking about your everyday glou-glou wine, this one comes from one of the 10 Crus of Beaujolais, Chiroubles to be exact. It has more depth and aromatic persistence. Wild raspberry, dark cherry and black pepper notes underpinned by remarkable minerality. A must-try for any Beaujolais fanatic!
