Domaine de Marcoux is a special domaine in Chateauneuf-du-Pape; two sisters, Sophie & Catherine, at the service of their vines produce some of the finest examples in the appellation. They were one of the first adopters of biodynamic techniques. Here, the wines have a natural and a rare depth, an energy and power that does not rely on artificial breeding, it's all biodynamically farmed and well located. Marcoux can produce a wine that truly reflects the Châteauneuf terroir as a whole. The domaine aim to craft balanced wines year in, year out, as each parcel is vinified separately prior to blending.
Why do we like it?
The 2020 blend is 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, 7% Syrah and 3% Cinsault. Domaine de Marcoux’s Châteauneuf is drawn from 13 parcels of vines, the palate is seamless, layered and textured, it’s a succulent release with explosive flavours of black raspberry, star anise and florals, black tea leave and well-integrated chalky tannins. This is a beautiful and balanced expression from one of the appellation’s leading artisans, a wine you can certainly age.
