2019 Domaine Jean-Marc Bouley, Volnay

.The fourth-generation winemaker, Thomas Bouley, was always considered one of the region's most exciting Pinot Noir talents early on and the great thing is that he more than lived up to this expectation. He oversees the 8.5-hectares Domaine where he practices organic viticulture, seeking equilibrium among the vines. Since Thomas Bouley joined his father Jean-Marc, the Domaine has ascended to stand alongside Volnay's most esteemed estates. Thomas has adeptly refined winemaking practices, emphasizing gentle extractions, the intelligent incorporation of whole cluster bunches, and minimal use of new oak barrels. Allowing the wines to spend a second winter in barrels before bottling contributes significantly to their complexity and balance. The vineyards, situated on steeply sloping, east-facing terrain with marly, well-drained, stony soils, are owned predominantly by the Bouley family and the team works all the vineyards organically.

Why do we like it?

2019 being a great vintage, it is truly showing the best of Volnay can produce, the nose is ethereal and pure, the palate is delicious, sensual and velvety. Lot of charming fruit and floral components, the palate is dense, complex, and fresh. Feel free to age it for another 4-5 years, even though it is showing extremely well right now.
