2011 Joh Jos Prüm 'Graacher Himmelreich' Riesling Auslese GOLDKAPSEL Museum Release, Mosel

Founded by Johann Josef Prüm in 1911, the winery rapidly built a reputation for its racy, pure expressions of Riesling, grown on the extraordinarily steep, slate slopes in the heart of the Mosel. Today, the estate is run by Dr Katharina Prüm who watches over 13.5 hectares of vines on the extremely steep slate slopes of the Mosel. The family’s holdings include many of the Mittelmosel’s most famous sites: Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Zeltinger Sonnenuhr, Graacher Himmelreich amongst a few others. Yields are low, with the harvest often stretching to late November. The winemaking is meticulous, but the extra effort is worth it. The resulting wines are known for their purity of fruit as well as their distinctive mineral character.

Why do we like it?

The 2011 Joh. Jos. Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel Museum Release is a rich, dessert-style Mosel wine from steep, slate-rich vineyards. It boasts a deep gold hue with candied apple, Persian melon, and honeyed notes on the nose. The palate offers tropical fruit, peach, and floral hints like peony, balanced by vibrant acidity and minerality. With botrytis influence, it’s weightlessly delicate yet concentrated, promising a long, honeyed finish and aging potential of four decades or more!
