2019 Chateau de Lavernette, Pouilly-Fuissé, Burgundy

This chateau and estate were originally the property of the monks of the abbey of Tournus. They became the seigniory of Lavernette in 1596. Nowadays the property, located in southern Burgundy at the crossroads of the Mâconnais and Beaujolais, belongs to the Boissieu family.  Since 2007, their passionate family works together on the family estate by combining their qualities, experiences and knowledge to produce high-class wines.

The vineyards are cultivated organically through environmentally respectful techniques since 2005 to create wines that have life, that reflect their south and south-east limestone terroirs. This wine comes from a 1 ha vineyard, so yields and production are tiny, with only a couple of thousand bottles being made each year.

Why do we like it?

The change to more sustainable farming has really changed the quality of the wines at the estate. The wines have gained in definition and concentration of flavours. Expect butter, cream, and a delicate vanilla note combine with ripe apple and a light melon touch. It is ready to drink, but you can keep it for the next 5 to 9 years.
