2019 Luis Anxo ‘Vina de Martin’ Treixadura, Ribeiro, Spain

Luis Anxo is one of the most elusive producers in Europe. He called this project ‘Viña de Martin’. The bodega name is taken from his oldest parcel of vines located in the little village of Paixon, south of Ribadavia in the relatively dry Arnoia Valley, under the highest peak of the region, La Carniza. Luis is the person most responsible for the quality of the wines in Ribeiro. He has 5 hectares comprised of 25 small parcels scattered up the steep slopes above his bodega. Most of the vines are of 30 years of age, planted by Luis himself in the 1980’s, but older parts of the vineyard have between 40 and 100 years of age. As you can imagine these vineyards are extremely low yielding but giving succulent fruit.

Why do we like it?

Treixadura is a white varietal also commonly found in the wines of Vinho Verde just across the border in Portugal. The wine is excellent, it shows a light salty character, revealing its closeness to the cold Atlantic Ocean, it’s packed with ripe aromas of nashi pear and apple, with notes of tropical fruits, white flowers, and green herbs. It has a wonderful rounded texture and incredible depth that will make come back to it over and over again, we promise that you will never forget this wine once you tried it.
