2017 Frederic Mabileau, Cabernet Sauvignon, Anjou, France

Within the Mabileau family, viticulture has a rich history spanning over four generations. Archives from the late 19th century document the family's involvement in winemaking. Frédéric and Nathalie embarked on their journey in 1991, establishing their own vineyard separate from Frédéric's parents, Odette and Jean-Paul. In 1996, the vineyard grew from three to nine hectares, and in 2003, following Jean-Paul's retirement, he entrusted his fifteen hectares of vines to his son. Notably, the oldest vines in the vineyard date back to 1947, reflecting the legacy of Frédéric's grandfather.

Frédéric Mabileau's Cabernet Sauvignon is a fully organic-certified wine sourced from a two-hectare vineyard situated on sandstone in Anjou. The vines, averaging 20 years in age, are planted at a density of 5,000 per hectare. After hand harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and undergo spontaneous fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, where they are also aged prior to bottling with minimal sulfur added.

Why do we like it?

The wine is incredible, a rich cabernet sauvignon with fine and silky tannins, elevated levels of natural acidity and a beautiful bouquet of ripe black fruit, blueberries and chocolate. This wine will keep evolving for a long time, alcohol and body are paired at a high concentration giving all that is necessary for longevity. Chill to 15 degrees, decant upon opening. Do it today, tomorrow or in 10 years.
