2020 Château Le Puy 'Emilien', Côtes de Francs, Bordeaux

Château Le Puy is an historical and unique wine estate in Bordeaux. Jean-Pierre Amoreau represents the 15th generation at the helm and it has been run by the same family since 1610! This makes them one of the oldest families to make wine in the country. The wines are some of the most traditional in Bordeaux, contrasting greatly with the rest of the region. They are precursors of biodynamic viticulture in the Bordeaux, with extremely low doses of SO2 used during winemaking. Located in Côtes de Francs, it is on the same plate as St-Emilion and Pomerol. Often admired by the amateurs of natural wine, these wines have a great capacity for aging!

Why do we like it?

The cuvée Emilien is a splendid wine, a blend of Bordeaux varietals with a dominance of Merlot, fermented in concrete tanks and aged in large oak barrels for two years. It is the antithesis of modernity with no new oak being used! The 2020 vintage 'Emilien' delivers greatly with flavours delicately infused, seductive and pleasing. A touch of plum and leather with some very fine tannins. Simply amazing! Decant 30 minutes before serving and you will be in for a real treat!
