2019 Feudi San Gregorio, Taurasi, Campania, Italy

Feudi di San Gregorio represents the revival of southern Italy's wine culture, emphasizing the rediscovery of Mediterranean flavors and promoting regional grape varieties like Aglianico, Fiano di Avellino, and Greco di Tufo. Founded in 1986 by two Irpinian families in Sorbo Serpico, Avellino, the winery invests in preserving the century-old tradition of Irpinia winemaking while aiming to secure the future of this unique environmental heritage. The new winery, inaugurated in 2004, merges the winery's historic legacy with innovative architectural design to maintain high-quality standards and meet rigorous market demands.

At Taurasi, Aglianico finds its ideal territory, from volcanic and impenetrable soils, giving life to a full and balanced wine. The grapes come from century-old vines from the Vigneto Storico (historic vineyard). It spends 18 months in medium toast French oak barriques and 500-liter barrels. It’s a powerful wine with plenty black berries, black cherries and a touch of chocolate.

 Why do we like it?

Delicious wine with plenty energy at youth, but due to its age, is revealing some tertiary aromas. Its is ready to drink, but opening a bottle with 10 or 15 years of age it is not uncommon. Definitely will benefit from decanting and large Bordeaux glasses.
