The roots of Clos i Terrasses, a seventeen-hectare estate, trace back to its inaugural plot, the north-facing Clos Escales. This terrain, extending over seventeen terraces, proves ideal for cultivating the red Garnacha grape. In a transformative move in 2004, owner Daphne Glorian enlisted renowned oenologist Ester Nin as a consultant, marking the winery's shift towards biodynamic cultivation and what changed it has made! Innovations also extended to the cellar, introducing concrete vats and amphorae.
The estate's small yet distinguished portfolio comprises the iconic 'Clos Erasmus' and the equally commendable yet more affordable ‘Laurel’. This is the second wine from Clos I Terrasses, sourced from the younger vines combined with selected barrels that were once intended for the Clos Erasmus but did not reach quality and were released to blend with these younger vines.
Why do we like it?
In the glass, the 2020 vintage of Laurel by Clos I Terrasses presents an alluring deep red hue. Delicate aromas of dark berries, sweet spices, licorice, and coffee captivate the senses. On the palate, it boasts a velvety texture with soft tannins, offering a superb mouthfeel complemented by moderate acidity. Notes of plums, red berries, and spices contribute to a rich tasting experience, leading to a prolonged and satisfying finish.
