A classic Australian wine. Kevin and Diana started considering a winery back in 1965 to use their, then free land. At their invitation, Dr Gladstones (a very well connected and researcher from the region) visited their property in Wilyabrup in the spring of the same year. They were not totally sure what they could grow or farm in the region back then, but Dr Gladstones knew it… he goes to say “Oh, you’re mad growing cattle and sheep, why don’t you grow grapes?”.
The 2020 Diana Madeline vintage was hot and dry. For the old block Cabernet Sauvignon vines, these drought-like conditions resulted in the vines producing small berries, and hence the vines were low yielding, as in bunch numbers were average but with low berry weight. This produced a wine of elegance, balance and perfume… effortlessly. These wines are completely biodynamic.
Why do we like it?
This is a blend is 92% cabernet sauvignon, 4% merlot, 3% cabernet franc, and 1% malbec. The wine has an excellent balance and purity of fruit with plenty ripe aromas of black berries, black cherries alongside a fine Bordeaux leather note packed with smoked green bell pepper, absolutely delightful and incredibly complex. This wine is ready to drink, but you can keep for the next 10-15+ years. Will benefit from decanting and make sure temperature of service is achieved by chilling to 15 degrees.
