Dogrock Winery is Allen and Andrea Hart’s dream, born in 1998 when they bought 58 hectares in the Pyrenees. Swapping science and viticulture careers, they planted Shiraz in 2000, embracing solar-powered, off-grid living. Their 5 Red Star winery feels like a love letter to the land. I’d love to visit, sip their wine, and hear their story under the Victorian sky.
Why do we like it?
The 2022 “Road Reserve” Shiraz shines from Ned’s block, hand-picked in March. Wild yeast ferments it in open vats, with 60% new French oak adding finesse. It’s peppery and spicy, with dark fruit in a bold yet smooth body. I imagine it warming me up, its taste echoing the rugged Pyrenees—a glass I’d savor slowly.
