2021 Blain-Gagnard “Passetoutgrain” Bourgogne

Jean-Marc Blain married Claudine Gagnard (daughter of Jacques Gagnard) and create this estate. Blain consistently produces some exemplary wines at every level. The are probably more famous for their whites but there are very good too.

But we need to explain what Passetoutgrain is first, it is a wine that is thirst quenching, made in Burgundy from Pinot Noir (which must be at least 30% of the blend) and Gamay grapes. They are meant to be drunk young and can be serve a little shilled too. Often deep in colour and on the fruity and floral side.

Why do we like it?

The 2021 Blain-Gagnard Bourgogne "Passetoutgrain" is one of our favourites, it has a beautiful vivid ruby colour and lots of pretty aromatics immediately jumping out of the glass. It is a wine that is made in a simple fashion, without any new oak flavour, so expect some delicious crunchy fresh cherries, raspberries, redcurrants and a little earthiness for the complexity, but more importantly, a lot of pleasure!
